I read my original essay "John Joseph Merlin Tried His Best" in June 2022 at the Columbus Arts Festival. This essay was read as part of the live storytelling event “Stories from Skateboarders and Roller Derby Queens.”

A Performance by Dancer Brianna Rhodes

The May 2021 issue of Columbus Monthly was a special issue dedicated to exploring the experiences of Black people in Central Ohio. One of the articles—"Year of Discovery: Black Columbus Artists in a Time of Crisis"—profiled five local Black artists. One of them was dancer/poet Brianna Rhodes. In the below video, she performs and original dance inspired by her poem "Black Women" on the Scioto Mile in Downtown Columbus.
