Special Projects

Below is a sampling of digital, virtual event and social media projects I've completed during my tenure as the associate editor for Columbus Monthly and the assistant digital editor for Dispatch Magazines.

A Performance by Dancer Brianna Rhodes

The May 2021 issue of Columbus Monthly a special issue dedicated to exploring the experiences of Black people in Central Ohio. One of the articles—"Year of Discovery: Black Columbus Artists in a Time of Crisis"—profiled five local Black artists. One of them was dancer/poet Brianna Rhodes. In the below video, she performs and original dance inspired by her poem "Black Women" on the Scioto Mile in Downtown Columbus.

Foraging with Alexis Nikole Nelson

Alexis Nikole Nelson, who goes by @blackforager on Instagram, explores one of her favorite spots to forage, Jeffrey Park in Bexley. I shot and edited the video. It accompanied an article I wrote about Nelson for Columbus Alive.

Future 50 Class of 2021

Columbus CEO's annual program highlights a diverse group of accomplished individuals in Central Ohio who have big idea to change the region. The special issue was distributed with the January 2021 issue. The online version of the issue was created using Architect, a digital storytelling platform. Meet the entire Future 50 class here.

Diversity in Hospitality: Black Chefs Speak Out

I co-moderated this virtual panel Dec. 3, 2020. The event was hosted by Columbus State Community College. The idea for the panel came from an article I wrote in the September 2020 issue of Columbus Monthly called "Notes From Columbus' Black Chefs."

Columbus Food Lovers' Guide

The A-Z guide was originally published in Columbus Monthly Restaurant Guide 2021, which was distributed to subscribers with the October 2020 issue of Columbus Monthly. The online version of the guide was created using Architect, a digital storytelling platform. Explore the complete guide here.

The Defining Decade

Columbus Monthly's December 2019 cover package explored 10 key moments—one for each year of the last decade—that transformed the city. I posted all the stories online and created a landing page that linked them together, allowing readers to easily navigate the in-depth package. I also coordinated the creation of a video with our corporate digital team. The entire Defining Decade series can be found here.

As the assistant digital editor for Dispatch Magazines, one of my job duties is overseeing the Instagram accounts for Columbus Alive, Columbus CEO and Columbus Monthly. Since I began working at Dispatch Magazines in October 2018, Columbus Monthly's Instagram account has grown from 4,733 followers to 9,849 as of December 2020. Columbus Alive has grown from 24,000 Instagram followers to 31,800 for that same time period. I also helped resurrect Columbus CEO's account, which had been dormant for six years.

Another large part of my duties as the assistant digital editor of Dispatch Magazines is creating, sending and monitoring our newsletters. Every week I produce five newsletters—one daily and four weekly—which reach a combined audience of more than 38,000.
